The SCUT program uses the equations of Underwood, Fenske and Gilliland for estimating the minimum reflux rate, the minimum number of trays, and required number of trays for a given reflux rate.

Program features

The number of theoretical trays required in a distillation column can be determined roughly for a given set of feed and product quality specifications, as a function of reflux rate.

A shortcut rough distillation column design speeds up sensitivity studies, preliminary cost estimates, and pa-rametric evaluations of operating variables. In these cases absolute accuracy is not needed.

For example, the program allows estimation of operating costs as a function of tray number or column height.
