The AD 2000 / section B modules cover the calculation rules and proofs demanded by the according 'Merkblatt' (working sheet). Additional information and hints for pursuing calculations or deficiencies in the code can be displayed dynamically by using the InfoBrowser.

Calculation of the maximum allowable test pressure (Pmax)

ThePMAX module calculates the maximum allowable pressure for all vessel parts in a project.

The performed calculation is not just a simple pressure calculation. All boundary conditions for the vessel part are checked.

The required additional information for calculating the maximum allowable working pressure, test pressure and fictive pressure for AD S1 are implemented. You can also set the boundary conditions on your own for calculating for example water hammer or explosions.

The program proposes the according joint efficiency factors for the calculation of the number of maximum allowable load cycles. They can be adjusted at any time.

The number of allowable load cycles is determined by Nzul

List of parts

The AD module summarizes operational and test data, as well as the main parts of a pressure vessel including main geometrical data and used material in one working sheet. For the final calculation, the specified modules are adjusted and their data are connected to the working sheet.

Design pressure according to B0 / Test pressure according to HP 30

The B0 module determines the design and test pressure for pressure vessels under internal pressure. Cooperating with the PMAX program the maximum allowed test pressure and the maximum allowed load cycles are determined.

Cylindrical and spherical shells under internal pressure

The B1 module calculates the maximum allowed unreinforced opening, the operation, dead and test weight and the allowable pressures apart from the requirements of the AD Merkblatt

Conical shells under internal and external pressure

The B2 module determines the run-out length and the required wall thickness at the transition area cone/cylinder.and the required wall thickness outside the taper area.

It also determines operation, dead and test weight and the allowable pressures.

Domed ends under internal and external pressure

The B3 module determines the required wall thickness in the knuckle area and in the crown section area, as well as the necessary skirt height of tori spherical ends, semi-ellipsoidal ends or hemispherical ends. For the actual wall thickness, the largest non reinforced opening is indicated, which requires no additional proof

Spherical dished ends

Spherical dished ends with loose flange, spherical dished ends with reinforced flange, and spherical dished ends with the same wall thickness in head and flange can be dimensioned with the module B4.

These calculations can also be performed with the the European Standard modules EN07 and EN08 (Shells under internal and external pressure).

Flat ends and plates together with supports

The module B5 determines the required wall thickness of stiffened or unstiffened flat ends and plates. Through an interactive decision-making process the final form is determined. For plates with boundary moment the gasket factors are provided.

The extra proof of a stress and deformation analysis cam be done with the 3840 module.

The proof of axial loads is done with the B51A module. The B51C module performs the proof of the projected flange ring.

For a simplified calculation of pipings the DIN EN ISO 1127 is included.

The module B7 determines the minimum bolt forces for circular, rectangular or arbitrary bolted connections with internal or full-face gaskets

The design parameters for gaskets of AD-Merkblatt B7, metal ring gaskets and asbestos free gaskets are attached. For metric bolts the thread root diameter is determined. . The gasket loads and the bolt loads are displayed.

Due to the increased test pressure according PED we have added a proof of tightness at test pressure.

The gasket table of the AD Merkblatt has been accomplished by extracts of manufacturers' catalogues. It is possible to enter gasket characteristics manually. Additionally there is a link to the catalogue of several manufacturers on the internet.


The B8 module calculates the required flange thickness of:

  • welding-neck flanges / welding-neck hubs
  • set-on flanges / set-on hub
  • set-on flanges with hinged bolts
  • loose flanges / segmented loose flanges
  • flanges with full face gasket etc

Flange calculations can also be performed according EN 1591 or EN13445.

Openings in cylinders, cones and spheres under internal pressure

With the module B9 round openings in cylinders, cones, and spheres can be designed according to the equivalent pressure area method. Pad-type flanges, set-on or protruding nozzles as well as set-on discs are taken into account as reinforcing area.

Module B9 is accomplished by the B9N module. While the B9 module is the mere equivalent of the AD 2000 worksheet B9, the module B9N is a combination of the AD Merkblatt B9 and the TRD 301/303.

The new module B9N comprises two new calculation sheets for set-on and set-in reinforcement rings on cylindrical shells. Safety factors of nozzle material, shell material and disc material can be changed.

Selection and documentation of materials for the design of pressure vessels

The program determines the allowable material properties dependent on temperature, workpiece geometry, regulation standard and delivery standard. All values are displayed on screen and may be printed, copied into the clipboard, saved as a file (e.g. for further processing in Microsoft WORD) or forwarded to any of our calculation modules like AD 2000/ASME/TRD/European Standard calculation program.

The program is bilingual. You can switch from German to English and vice versa.

Thick walled cylindrical jackets under internal pressure

The module B10 determines the required wall thickness of thick walled cylinders. Furthermore, it calculates the equivalent stress produced by internal pressure and the thermal stress at the internal and external fiber.

Single-ply bellows expansion joints

With the module B13 single-ply bellows expansion joints can be designed. It also determines the axial elastic spring rate and the bending spring rate of a convolution and the allowable number of load cycles.
